CHIATURA

Once Chiatura was a thriving city in the Western part of Georgia. It was one of the biggest manganese ore producers in the Soviet Union. After the collapse of the Soviet Union production was leveled down to a minimum. The left-over miners work hard in hazardous situations to make ends meet. The main transportation to and from the mines are old Soviet cable cars.
